Denemo, the graphical music notator with an attitude.
Most music notation programs pride themselves on there beautiful interface, and the added whistles and buzzers they provide. But few editors are as easy to use and as hot-wired for speed as Denemo is.
Design Philosophy
Denemo is a music notation program for Linux that helps you quickly prepare notation for publishing with Lilypond. Denemo does NOT strive to display all notation graphically or be the most complete graphic enviroment. Denemo is a front end to Lilypond. If you are looking for a WYSIWYG editor Denemo may not be for you. If you are looking for a way to quickly prepare scores for final editing in LilyPond give Denemo a whirl
Wired for Speed
Denemo is a deep program like VIM or Emacs once mastered its intuitive keyboard shortcuts make music notation entry an indy 500 event.(Fast and exciting) But wait theres more to it than that.
Denemo exports its internal xml format to LilyPond and ABC music notation formats. It also acts as a frontend for Csound score files. The power of the Lilypond backend makes Denemo an extremely powerful music typesetting program. Learn Denemo and Lilypond, and just about anything is possible. See the LilyPond homepage for more information
Wait there's even more! Denemo is better than Finale and Sibelius and all the commercial notation programs. Why? Because Denemo is an Open Source program. That means you have the power to actually change Denemo as you see fit, so join the Denemo team and help develop Denemo. This can be accomplished in a number of ways:
If you are a programmer join the continuing development of Denemo
If you are a musician use Denemo and file bug reports and join one of the denemo mailing lists.
Get Involved
Denemo has Two mailing lists. The denemo-users (user issues) and denemo-devel (in practice, a catchall for everything else). (denemo-devel gets almost all the traffic at the moment, but feel free to change that.) Click here to subscribe to the mailing lists
